New House -- Kitchen

This kitchen is easily about 100 times better than the townhouse kitchen when it comes to size and functionality. As I unpacked what seemed like 46 kitchen boxes, I seriously was amazed by the amount of crap I somehow fit into the last kitchen. Guys, side note.. What is wrong with me? There are only TWO of us in this house and we just became fancy last week when we inherited a foyer, so why on Earth did I have so many freakin' plates? The old kitchen had like 5 cabinets and they were literally filled to the brim. If you wanted something specific, chances are you had to dig to the back of the cabinet or lift up 10,000 plates to get to the ones you wanted all the way at the bottom of the stack. Totally normal. And totally a #firstworldproblem.

WELL, this is certainly not the case anymore! WE HAVE SPACE. Finally!!

I have a cabinet just for pyrex glass storage containers, a cabinet just for coffee mugs, TWO lazy susan corner cabinets, and the list of cabinet amazingness goes on. The best part? I've unpacked all the kitchen boxes and still have EMPTY cabinets... lots of them! YESSSSS.

So with that being said, the cabinet space and layout of this new kitchen is seriously fabulous, but there's always two sides to every story, right?
I really, really, really dislike the look of this kitchen. I know some people love wood cabinets, but I am not one of those people. I like white kitchens. With subway tile. And marble. Pops of color here and there. Yeah, that's what I like.

So I've definitely got plans for this kitchen. BIG ones. Come to mama!

Here's what the kitchen looked like before we moved in!

The cabinets are SO tall! I'm 5'10" and I can't reach the top without a step stool! I love how the kitchen is open to the living area with the bar and eat in space! And I absolutely LOVE the french doors that lead to the back porch!

So while I don't love the overall cosmetic look of the kitchen, I love the space, the layout, and the upgraded finishes it offers us! :) A little bit of DIY can definitely make this space more our style, and I am SO excited about the possibility this room has to offer!

Oh yeah, did I mention we have a ginormous pantry? We could be crazy doomsday preppers with this thing!

Must. Not. Stockpile. Canned. Goods. :)

So what do you think about the kitchen? Can you envision it in it's beautiful white and carrera marble glory?

New House -- Living Room

Straight through the foyer and past the dining room is the new living room. This room has so many nice features! Built-ins, a double-sided fireplace, and big windows with lots of trim really add character to this room!

At first I wasn't sure about the built-ins and whether they would clash with my furniture and decor, but now I really love them! I don't have nearly enough stuff to really properly style them, but I'm sure that will come with time. :) Goodwill better stock those shelves with every brass figurine humanly possible! MUAHAHAHA!

Here's what the living room looked like before we moved in!

I would love to lose that hearth down the line and try to modernize the fireplace a bit. Kinda like this or this.

Ahhhh!!! This space has so much potential!!

If you follow along on Instagram (@fabvintage) you'll remember what the living room looked like shortly after moving in our furniture!

Everything actually fits well in the space! The slipper chair was previously in our master bedroom and doesn't really match the other couches, but is a good placeholder for now. :)

So what do you think about the living room? How would you recommend styling the built-ins? Books, photos and knick-knacks? Should I hang curtains? Or are they not really necessary? I seriously don't even know where to start!

New House -- Dining Room

Our new dining room is pretty much my favorite room in the house, which is why I decided to share it first! The kitchen is a close second, and will probably be numba one once it gets spruced up a bit!

So, the dining room is directly off of the main entrance way, I guess you could actually call it a foyer! Holy crap. I have a foyer.. you know what that means? That means I'm fancy. GUYS. I AM FANCY. **Pinky Up**

Okay, funs over. Pinky back down so I can continue typing. You guys keep yours up.

The reason that the dining room is my favorite has to be both the really pretty moldings, and the overall symmetry of the room. I love symmetry. When I was younger there was a house we always used to pass that was completely symmetrical. It was to me what that big ol' hot pink Dream House is to Barbie. I loved it. I wanted it. I needed it. Symmetry makes me happy. I am a self-proclaimed weirdo.

Now that we've gotten that settled, let's take a look at my new dining room!

So what do you think? It's a pretty nice space to work with! Especially since we've never had a formal dining room before yet we have hosted Thanksgiving for both my family and Aaron's for the past 2 years. THIS YEAR we will not have to move out the current table and chairs and replace them with ugly folding versions just to fit everyone. THIS YEAR we will not all be crammed into one tiny living area. THIS YEAR we will not eat on paper plates (maybe - HAHA). THIS YEAR we will still eat as much food as we did last year and the year before that!!!!! THIS IS MY YEAR PEOPLE! The year of the dining room. Can you tell I'm excited?

However, this will not be my year if I do not 1. Buy a dining table. 2. Paint/Beautify/Decorate the room.

I've got a lot of work cut out for me, but I am so excited about the possibilities! I also have already dreamed up the entire space in my head so now I just have to make it a reality!

I'm going to share my idea with you guys soon, but first wanted to get your opinion. I'm a little torn on what to do with the wall color. Do I go dark and moody? Or light and bright? If I went light and bright, I would do an accent color on the ceiling. If I went dark and moody, I'd keep the trim and ceiling bright white, and just paint the upper half of the walls.

What do you think? Do you prefer a dark dining room? Or something light? Or do I go totally crazy and wallpaper the upper half?! HALP!

Here's a few looks I'm liking!

Which do you prefer? I think I'm leaning towards the lighter colors since the dining room is open to the living room. What do you think?

New House Details

Now that we're signed, sealed, delivered, all moved in, and living in the chaos that currently is boxes and things everywhere!! I think it's safe to share the details of the new house. :)
Our new house is just shy of 2700 square feet, has 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, an office (which was a 4th bedroom but is currently lacking a closet), formal dining room, eat-in kitchen and living room.
The house is situated on a few acres (eeeeeeeee!!!!!) so you better believe that a veggie garden and chicken coop is in my near future! I even bought this book and this book from Amazon so you know I mean business.

There's a pretty front porch as well as 2 screened in back porches.

And there are various garages/storage sheds/future workshops on the property too!!

I know, it's MASSIVE.

The new house has mainly gross carpet and tile, with a little bit of hardwoods in the entry. We cannot wait to hardwood up that entire house (minus the wet areas)!

The landscaping right now is a little overgrown and crazy since it hasn't been maintained in quite some time, but we've already started tackling that. :)

Oww owwwww!!!

Basically, the house needs a little love but has great bones and is really, truly the perfect house for us.

We seriously cannot believe that this house is ours. I still get excited everytime we pull in the driveway. :) We couldn't be happier.

Thanks for all the support and encouraging words along the way!

Complete House Tour next week!

Annnnddddd... We're Moved In!

Just a quick post from me today since we are surrounded by boxes!! BUT! That can only mean one thing..
We closed on Friday (not Thursday like planned... grrrr!) and are settling in to our new home!

Friday we spent the entire day cleaning the house. We vacuumed the carpets (like 5 times each.. the amount of hair/dust/idontevenwannaknow the vacuum was picking up was absolutely disgusting. Then we shampooed the rugs, mopped the floors, scrubbed the kitchen and baths, and then passed out from exhaustion/disgust/happiness.

Saturday we moved everything from storage to the house! Thanks Kate, Moose, and Eric for the help!
This day was hot and sweaty and tiring (why do we always move in August/September?!?!!!) but it was nice to finally have all of our things again!

Sunday and Monday were spent unpacking, organizing, moving furniture. You get the drift.
We're still not done unpacking and settling in. I'm hoping by this weekend the house will be in order and we can focus on the garages/sheds (yes, we have lots of those!).

So I just wanted to check-in quickly and let you all know where we're at! I hope to share some interior pics and room layouts later this week!

Until then, follow along on Instagram (@fabvintage) to catch some sneak peeks!
