Foyer Updates!

Last we left off in the foyer, I told you all how I used Jedi mind tricks to convince Aaron that we needed a fancy chandy to spruce up the entry. See ladies, watching Star Wars really does pay off.

Over the months following, I slowly but surely got the entry space furnished and styled and for now, I am happy with how it looks.

I knew I wanted some kind of console table or credenza (even contemplated mounting the fauxdenza, but then found a better spot for it) in the entry and when I stumbled upon a mid century dresser at Salvation Army, I snatched the price tag off that bad boy before you could say "bye felicia!".

The dresser overall was in really good shape. I did clean it up really well with vinegar and then gave it a good rub down with some restore-a-finish just to fill in any superficial surface scratches, etc.

As soon as we put the dresser in the foyer, I went to town styling it with things we already had from the townhouse. I hung the flower prints that were originally over the couch in the living room. The lamps were from our master bedroom and the rest of the knick knacks were random things I threw together.

I'll be honest and say I wasn't sold on the rug at first, but it has slowly grown on me. I got it for super cheap during a rugsusa sale and immediately wanted to return it when it arrived, but when I learned I would have to pay return shipping (almost as much as the rug cost!), I decided to see if I could use it elsewhere or if worse came to worst, Craigslist it.

I haven't really been looking for a replacement so it hasn't moved yet, haha!

Ugh, these photos are all reminders that I need to get a power strip to plug both lamps into so that the cord is hidden.

Anyways, the rug stays for now!

So that's the updated foyer! The chandelier is still my favorite part but I do love that the space feels "put together" and the extra storage in the dresser is great!

As a reminder of where we started, here's a photo from when we first moved in!

Now that I've painted the front door black, I'm wondering if I should do the same on the inside of the door? I feel like there's so much pretty molding in the entry and it doesn't really pop. Painting the door may help. Here's a quick mock-up.

What do you guys think? Paint it black? Leave it white? Paint it a different color? I'd love your suggestions!

xx, Shannon

  1. i like the rug! as for the door, i'd choose a muted teal or green pulled out of your rug!!

    1. The rug has started to grow on me! :) A fun color could be nice! Will have to mock-up! :)

  2. I think painting the door black would be really wonderful! You're right, the mouldings are really pretty and aren't very noticeable right now.

P.S. I really like that rug and think it works well there!

    1. Thanks for the suggestion! I clearly have a black door obsession, hehe! Glad you guys are liking the rug!

  3. I am obsessed with black doors at the moment too, my front door is black, but what I have really loved seeing lately is mop board black painted doors. (Ben Moore Paints) I am also an official stalker of the Dear Lillie Blog which features the mentioned color including your entry way gray owl. Have fun decorating!

  4. Am I too late? really pretty entry and YES, BLACK! PS: I may use one of your lovely images [if it's okay] with a link back to your blog--of course! I'm doing a post on warm grays. Should be up tomorrow.

  5. haha! Thank you so much! Just came to grab the url! I'm doing a post on Benjamin Moore warm gray paints. Of course, I have no idea what you painted the entry. And in a way, it doesn't matter, because 90% of the time whatever someone says the color is, doesn't look like it anyway. So, I am just guessing. Yours looks a lot like Balboa Mist that I just did for a client last year. Anyway. Gorgeous entry!

  6. that's in the post too! my name links to it. nice "meeting" you Shannon!

  7. What is the name of the rug on Rugs USA? Thanks! Love your foyer..

  8. Did you lighten the Gray Owl? What color is the trim?
